Australia Perth Mint 1966 2c Coin PCGS MS66RD (Gem Uncirculated Red)
Unquestionably scarce in superior grade, and yet surprisingly affordable, we have the Perth Mint-struck 1966 2c in magnificent Gem Uncirculated Red condition!
To facilitate a seamless transition from predecimal to decimal currency, the Australian Government had to have hundreds of millions of coins struck for the changeover. As a result, four different mints were called into action, with the then new Royal Australian Mint joined by the Perth Mint, Melbourne Mint and Royal Mint in London to strike the necessary coins for C-Day, on February the 14th, 1966.
The Perth Mint struck 1c and 2c coins, and, with exactly 60 years having passed since issue, it’s no surprise that the Mint’s 1966 2c is seldom seen in the state of preservation apparent here. Assessed by leading 3rd party independent coin verifiers Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) at MS66RD – Gem Uncirculated Red – this landmark issue is genuinely scarce in this condition. Indeed, testimony to that scarcity, PCGS has only graded ONE example of the Perth Mint 1966 2c higher than MS66!
A fantastic and entirely appropriate acquisition as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of decimal currency, click add to cart now!
