Queen Victoria 1893S-1900S Sydney Mint Veiled Head Gold Half Sovereign Complete Set Fine-Very Fine
Complete 3-Coin Set!
The Queen Victoria Veiled Head Half Sovereign Series ran from 1893 to 1900, but during that time, the Sydney Mint struck only three dates – 1893, 1897 & 1900. All three are included in this complete set!
The last Half Sovereign type issued during the record-breaking reign of Queen Victoria, the coins before you are distinguished by the superb Veiled Head portrait by Sir Thomas Brock. Upon the reverse, one finds the neo-classical masterpiece by Italian designer, Benedetto Pistrucci – St George & the Dragon. As with most mints around the world, the Sydney Mint wasn’t overly keen on striking the somewhat tricky Half Sovereign, and thus issued Veiled Head Half Sovereigns in only three years, and, even then, only did so in very low numbers. The mintages of the 1893 and 1900 are 250,000 and 260,000 respectively, and whilst the mintage of the 1897 is unknown, it is likely to be similar.
With so few struck, and a vast majority lost to the mists of time or melted down for the value of the gold, all three Sydney Mint Veiled Head Half Sovereign dates are scarcely today. Rarely offered as a complete set, secure all three today! Click add to cart!
