Following almost six years of hardship, adversity and uncertainty, Victory in Europe (VE) Day was a historic day filled with joyful celebrations, tearful reflection and national pride. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, The Royal Mint has released a UK coin featuring a reverse design by the late John Mills. Originally issued in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the ‘dove of peace’ design has been updated to include the words ‘IN PEACE GOODWILL’, taken from former Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s book series The Second World War.
