Australian First World War Two-Up Set
Two-Up in the trenches
Forming a tangible connection to those who bravely marched off to defend ‘King & Country’ during Australia’s ‘Baptism of Fire’, we are proud to present the Australian First World War Two-Up Set.
Two-Up is more than a game. Two-Up is one of Australia's grandest traditions, forming a direct link to some of our most important history. Played by servicemen from the shores of Gallipoli to the jungles of New Guinea, from the fields of Flanders to the deserts of North Africa, Two-up is perhaps most associated with the Australian armed forces.
Although we think life for an average Aussie digger in WWI meant constant fighting, the reality was far different. Most servicemen would see one or two weeks of action on the frontline, and then many weeks completing mundane duties, training, or simply waiting. For many, Two-Up was a way to relieve the boredom, and, so popular was it with the diggers in the trenches, the game became inextricably linked with Australia’s rich military heritage.
A concrete link to those who served in ‘the war to end all wars’, the Australian First World War Two-Up Set includes two Australian King George V 1914-18 pennies and a 'kip' with which to toss the coins in the air. Beautifully presented within an all-new, illustrated outer box, complete with descriptive instructions on how to play Australia’s famous gambling game, this historic set is a unique collectable in its own right – and would make a fantastic gift.
