Australian Decimal Currency 60th Anniversary!
Official, affordable and highly collectable, this Australian legal tender 4-coin $1 set from the Royal Australian Mint celebrates the 60th anniversary of decimal currency in Australia!
Joining a worldwide trend, Australia’s original currency system of pounds, shillings and pence was replaced by decimal currency on the 14th of February 1966. Designed by numismatic master craftsman Stuart Devlin, Australia’s new decimal coinage paid homage to Australian native animals. The kangaroo & emu were found on the 50c, with the platypus (20c), lyrebird (10c), echidna (5c), frilled-neck lizard (2c) and feathertail glider (1c) also honoured. Uniquely Australian, Stuart Devlin’s designs are still cherished, even six decades after the nation’s embrace of decimalisation.
The perfect way to pay homage to a major milestone in Australian currency history, this set comprises four Australian legal tender coins. Bearing the C mintmark and B, S & M privymarks respectively, the four coins each carry a design featuring elements of Australia’s original decimal coins! All of Stuart Devlin’s Aussie animal motifs are united in one design! Struck to the RAM’s rigorous Uncirculated standard, the four coins are set within an acrylic pack, housed in an illustrated outer sleeve.
With the one-year-only Decimal Currency 60th Anniversary $1 type not to be issued for circulation and never found in change, demand for this set is going to be massive. Don’t miss this opportunity – click add to cart now!
