Australia Elizabeth II 1954 Royal Visit Florin Very Fine Pack

Australia Elizabeth II 1954 Royal Visit Florin Very Fine Pack

The 1954 Royal Visit Florin was the first Australian commemorative coin issued during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II – and also the last of the 1910-64 Australian predecimal series. A must-have for every Australian, we have this unique, one-year-only type at a price to please all pockets!

Crowned in 1953, Queen Elizabeth II became the first reigning British monarch to land on our shores when she arrived at Farm Cove, Sydney, in February of 1954. An extensive nationwide tour, an astonishing 75% of the Australian population was able to see Elizabeth II at least once before her departure in April. This would be the first of sixteen Royal Tours of Australia made by Elizabeth II, with the last taking place in 2011.

A permanent memento of a landmark moment in Australian history, the Melbourne Mint’s 1954 Royal Visit Florin forms a symbolic reminder of the powerful bond between Australia and the Mother Country. Uniting the Lion (Britain) with the Kangaroo (Australia), the reverse was created by leading sculptor William Leslie Bowles, who served in the military throughout the First World War and was the power behind many important Australian military monuments.
