1913 Perth George V Gold Sovereign Extremely Fine-about Uncirculated

1913 Perth George V Gold Sovereign Extremely Fine-about Uncirculated

Available in premium grade Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated quality, the Perth Mint’s King George V 1913P Gold Sovereign forms a compelling addition to any collection.

A genuine artefact of pre-war Australia, and a tangible keepsake of a very different society before the shattering experience of ‘the war to end all wars’, the 1913P Gold Sovereign had a mintage of 4.636 million. Despite what seems like a generous mintage, the 1913P is, like all pre-WWI George V sovereigns, relatively scarce in superior quality. In large part, this scarcity is due to the fact that literally millions of sovereigns have been lost to the profiteer’s melting pot, destroyed for the gold. In part, however, the scarcity of the 1913P is because it was among the last sovereigns to be used in circulation.

Gold Sovereigns were, of course, genuine circulation coins. The First World War put an end to that. The global economic crisis engendered by the conflict sounded the death knell for gold as a circulating medium, and sovereigns ceased to be used in circulation. Unlike their successors, the sovereigns of 1913 were used in day-to-day transactions and, subjected to the normal rigours of circulation, are tough-to-find in better grade.

An irresistible opportunity to secure this historic date in premium grade, the few 1913P Gold Sovereigns we have available are in Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated quality. Sure to bring a prestigious lustre to any collection, each 22-carat gold coin is housed within a stylish timber case with a Certificate of Authenticity. Click add to cart now!
